Can you tell me about Merlin’s Gate Opener range?
Merlin offers three different types of gate openers to fit the specific needs of your home, and to suit the type of gate you have installed.
One model is designed for sliding gates up to eight meters; gates that slide from left to right as they open and close.
We also have two options for swing gates; the linear actuator arm, which is suitable for residential single or double swing gates up to three or respectively six metres, and the articulated arm version, suitable for residential swing gates up to two and a half (single) or five metres (double).
Each gate opener is different and designed to match the needs of different households. There are some properties that don’t have the depth needed for a swing gate, and others that don’t have the width to accommodate a slide gate.

What accessories do the gate openers have?
Merlin offers a range of industry-leading safety accessories that are not dissimilar to what we offer in our garage door opener range. Our priority at Merlin, first and foremost, is always safety!
The Merlin’s Protector System (Safety IR Beams) is installed on either side of your gate and reliably stops the gate from closing when the beam is obstructed or broken. Using infrared technology, this feature can prevent injury or damage to cars or any runaway kids or pets, as the gate stops and reverses, before making contact.
Another great accessory is the Battery Backup 24V, which allows you to operate your gate, and use all smart safety features, even in the event of a power outage.
One of my favourites is the myQ Connectivity Kit, which allows you to control your gate via a smartphone app. Similar to the myQ capabilities with garage door openers, you’re able to schedule gate functions, open the gate remotely and even create Guest Access profiles for trusted friends and family members to use to gain entry.
Finally, the Wireless Security Keypad means that you can punch in your chosen code and the gates open, without the need for a remote. This is beneficial if you like to Airbnb your property, or if you want to give access to a delivery driver so they can put your packages behind the gate, rather than leaving them on the road.
Which gate opener accessories do you recommend?
The accessory I’d recommend as number one is the myQ Connectivity Bundle. The bundle comes with a set of Safety Beams and a myQ Gateway.
With this smart and safe accessory, you’re able to control your gate’s functions from your smart device AND still have the great benefits provided by the infrared safety beams.
